Planning an outdoor wedding can be very challenging. There are plenty of things that you can plan and you know for certain that they’ll happen. For example, you can make sure you have your dress ready and it fits, make the cake and have it decorated, check that the most important people are available and will be there. But there’s always one factor of an outdoor wedding that you can’t control - the weather. That’s why it’s so crucial to have backup plans in place. The last thing you need on your wedding day is to have a torrential downpour, with the result that all the guests are huddling in their cars because there’s nowhere else to go.

So when you’re first looking at potential wedding venues, ask about alternative arrangements if the weather turns nasty. Many wedding venues will have a small chapel that you can use. Even if you’re using a more public venue, find out if there’s a closed structure nearby, such as a large rotunda, or perhaps even a small hall that you could access if required. An outdoor wedding is a very special way to celebrate your special day, but there’s no doubt you need the peace of mind of having alternative arrangements in place for bad weather.

There’s more to consider than having an alternate venue, however. What about the arrangements you already have in place? Many outdoor weddings involve temporary structures such as tents or gazebos, and these can easily become dislodged and blow over if it’s a windy day. So take the time to ensure any temporary structures are well secured. If you feel that all of this is too much for you to handle, consider using the services of a professional wedding planner. The wedding planner can help you choose a venue, and will be experienced in sourcing all the other things you need to make your outdoor wedding a success.

An outdoor wedding can be beautiful, and yours will be too, as long as you spend enough time planning it properly. That way it doesn’t matter what the weather does on the day, you’ll be prepared, and can just focus on being a gorgeous bride.
